Can video games improve your health?

Nasa experiment pic    NASA develops a new way to study how video games can help lead to a healthier life. “This technology is a spin-off of NASA research where we measure the brain activity of pilots in flight simulators,” according to co-inventor Alan Pope, Ph.D.  The technology that Dr. Pope is referring to is a new form of their biofeedback.

“Thirty years of biofeedback research has shown that by training specific brainwave changes, or reductions in other abnormal physiological signals, people can achieve a wide variety of health-enhancing outcomes,” said Dr. Olafur Palsson, assistant professor of psychiatry and family medicine at EVMS.  “With this new technology, we have found a way to package this training in an enjoyable and inherently motivating activity.”

The new twist in this technology is training people to change their on brainwaves and other physiological functions when they are playing some of the popular off the shelf gaming systems.  Sensors are attached to the head and body of the gamer and information is sent to a signal-processing unit which is linked to the joystick of the video game or other control device. The object is for the player to change their brainwaves to come to an optimal, stress-free pattern and in-turn the joystick or control device will become easier to control.  This kind of control is what is needed to succeed at the game.   I would also like to point out the controller that the participant is using and it seems to me that that is a ps3 style controller.  I am willing to bet that there is some super ps3 console somewhere behind the scene.

Where are all my Street Fighter Fans?

Ryu Str. Fighter IV    The wait is finally over and the fourth generation has arrived. Yes, you heard it correctly Street Fighter IV is here and it still has the old heads which are still the best, like my numeral uno Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Guile.  O yeah i must not forget the new kids on the block who seem to be some real bad mofos and and they are Crimson Viper,Abel,El Fuerte, and Rufus.

The game play will still be that good old classic 2D perspective, but with a little twist of stylized 3D rendered environments and camera flourishes in 3D.  Along with hits like Soul Calibur IV and Mortal Combat Vs. D.C. Universe, Street Fighter takes it’s rightful place as the king of all ps3 fighting games.

Will Custom-firmware be available for the ps3?

Dark Alex LogoIt is no secret that custom-firmware exists for the Sony PSP.  What about the ps3, will the developer Dark-Alex who brought you all the custom-firmwares for the Sony PSP, pull a rabbit out of the hat.  Will he make the ps3 functional like its older kid brother the Sony PSP?

For those who do not know what custom-firmware is let us give you a brief history.  Upon the release of the Sony PSP hackers began to discover exploits in the PSP that could be used to run various types of unsigned code on the system.  To combat these attempts Sony would change the firmware to another version which would give the PSP a different functionality and also plug the holes that the hackers were exploiting. Dark Alex is the hacker that is mostly responsible for all the flip flopping from Sony to Hackers.  Sony will plug it and Dark Alex will unplug it.  Since 2006 Sony has changed the PSP firmware 12 times. Have anyone heard of the saying if you can’t beat-em you might as well join them?  I wonder what Dark Alex has up his sleeves for the Sony ps3 consoles.

What is your favorite ps3 Game?

shooter gameI find a lot of my friends like the  first person ps3 shooter games.  We want to know what is your forte’ is it shooting, sports, racing, fighting or rpg?
I personally don’t have a favorite because i am so versatile.  I can play what ever game you set before me as long as it is not extremely boring. I have not found any boring games on the ps3 yet but it is always a first time for everything.

One game that was not initially introduced on the ps3 but was demoed on the psp was loco roco. It is a very fun game to me eventhough it was a game that seemed to be fit for kids.  I had a fun time with it and the music and those little yellow cute loco roco’s were hard to shake loose.  Sony designs a lot of great games and the ps3 will one day have thousands of games to choose from.  What is your favorite game?

Connectivity with the Sony Playstation 3.

ps3 and psp  The playstation 3 is very unique when it comes to connectivity. I am now just going to focus on one very impressive connectivity option that the Sony ps3 offers and it is the ability to remotely connect with the Sony PSP.  The Sony PSP is the handheld version of the playstation series and it can connect with the playstation 3 in many ways.  One way is in-game connectivity. An example of this is playing Formula One: Championship Edition, which is one of the many ps3 racing games, in conjunction with using the PSP as a real-time rear-view mirror.

Sony has demonstrated many ways the psp can connect to the ps3 including but not limited to gameplay, music and file sharing, but the most impressive is the playing back of video content that includes 1080p content streaming from a ps3’s hard disk. This type of connection is performed through an ad-hoc wireless network.

game accessoryThere are many ps3 accessories that can be purchased to enhance overall performance. Some accessories such as the BD Remote, the Playstation Eye camera, the wireless six-axis and the Dual shock 3 controllers, are only some unique accessories that will let the good times roll with your ps3 experience. There is even a digital video recorder accessory called the Play TV DVB-T tuner.

For all you playstation gamers out there that was disapointed about the lack of vibration in the new playstation controllers than have no fear because dualshock 3 is here.  In 2007 at the Tokyo Game Show, the anouncement of the DualShock 3(trademarked DUALSHOCK 3), was proclaimed that it will have the same function as the sixaxis, but it will have the vibration capability included. The controller is said to be heavier with vibration forces comparable to the DualShock2.  It was released in North America on April 15, 2008.

killzone 2    How many ps3 video games have been released into the market?  There are 532 video games out on the market today with more to come in 2009. The xbox 360 has 545 game titles but it is not backwards compatible at all and what you see is what you get.

When it comes to the ps3 it is more than what meets the eyes.  This year at E3 2008 Sony  announced that there will be a number of titles for their 2009 line-up.  Titles like The Agency, God of War III, Infamous, Killzone 2 and MAG: Massive Action Game which is an online multiplayer shooter that will support up to 256 players at one time.

video game pics    Who has the most games the Sony ps3, the Xbox 360, or the Nintendo wii?  Well the Sony ps3 games did not top the charts in quantity when it was first released but it has made a stunning comeback and now it totally tops the charts if you add all the games that it can play.  The version of your ps3 system determines how many other games you can play.

Some Sony PlayStation 3 consoles are totally backwards compatible which means that they will play PlayStation 1,2,and 3 games  so for you die hard PlayStation 3 fans out there if you still have your ps1, like I do, then you will have no problem playing your ps1 games on the new ps3 system.

What system has the best Graphics: SPS3 vs. X360

PS3 Vs. Xbox 360There is an ongoing debate on which system has the better graphics.  Gamers tend to lean toward the system that they like the best because; Hey, they just like it.  But what are the cold hard facts which system has the best technology that will prove without a shadow of doubt that they have the best graphics.

In my opinion the Sony ps3 is going to have the better graphics.  I have one hyphenated word for you and that is; Blu-ray. For those that don’t know what Blu-ray is let me shed some light on this subject.  Blu-ray is an optical disc storage medium that uses a high definition video and data storage.  The Blu-ray derived from the blue laser that is used to read and write the typed of data that is used on the Blu-ray discs. The beam of a Blu-ray laser has a shorter wave lenghth (405 nanometers) than that of a standard red laser(650 nanometers) which is used for regular DVD formats. A two layer Blu-ray DVD can store almost six times the capacity of a two layer DVD, and that is ten times more than a single-layer DVD. Dual layer Blu-ray discs can store 50 gigabytes of information.  This one peace of technology is a big determining factor in which system has the better graphics.  The Sony PlayStation 3 has a 3.2 Ghz Cell Broadband Engine with 1 PPE & 7 SPEs and its GPU is a 550 MHz Nvidia/SCEI RSX ‘Reality Synthesizer.’  This is what makes Sony the top of the food chain in video game graphics.
